Celebrate De La Salle Week!

This week, Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota celebrates De La Salle Week.  Dedicated to the life and work of St. Jean-Baptiste de La Salle, this week is an excellent time to learn more about the history of Saint Mary’s and the university’s Lasallian heritage. The Twin Cities Library has plenty of resources on both for your reading pleasure:

The Work is Yours: The life of Saint John Baptist de La Salle
This book discusses the life of Jean-Baptiste de La Salle, with chapters on each of the major stages of his life. It also includes a section on his enduring legacy – one that Saint Mary’s is proud to be a part of!

Touching the Hearts of Students: Characteristics of Lasallian schools
This seminal work on La Sallian schools provides an in-depth look at the educational philosophy that binds them together. In addition to a discussion of Jean-Baptiste de La Salle’s vision for education, this book offers ideas on how that vision can be adapted and presented for the modern day.

Brothers to One Another: the De La Salle Brothers behind the Iron Curtain
This fascinating history looks at the life and role of the La Sallian brothers in Romania, Hungary, and Czechoslovakia after the Second World War. Read this book if you are curious about the changing role of the brothers through time, or if you have any interest in life in Europe after World War II.
